Five For Friday- My Top 5 Favorite Verses

FIVE FOR FRIDAY

My top FIVE favorite verses*:

1.  “For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.” 2 Chronicles 16:9 I love to picture God looking around every scene I am in and waiting to give me strength to be bold. He is constantly looking for people to follow his prompting and give us strength to do what we feel called in our hearts to do. What a promise!

2. “The Lord is able to do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine.” Ephesians 3:20  I love this verse!  There is a story of an old man sitting on the beach and a bunch of local surfers approach him and ask what he is thinking about, as he was staring off. He said he was picturing all God could do with him that day, and he was saying that God could do more then even his wildest dreams, so he was just imagining and couldn’t wait to see all the more God would do! I want a faith a like.  A faith that is on an adventure with God and every day is living loud!

3. ” The spirit of the Lord is one… He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners… to set the oppressed free…” Luke 4:18.  This may be the most significant scripture for me because of the weight it holds. Jesus is quoting the Old Testament here, and claiming this promise as his personal mission on earth.  Jesus is saying he has come to set us free. Not just from death, but from this life.  We don’t have to live as prisoners, bound to our earthly desires.  We are able to be set free every day because of Jesus. Amen!

4.” I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Psalm 139:14.  Becoming a mother haas made this verse come to life for me. As I have had three babies in my womb, I have clung to this verse and treasured the delight of it in my heart.  I understand in a very small scale of a way, how wonderful and miraculous our lives are.  I feel I have insight into how that miracle of life can be fearful; as my boys are starting to grow and become their own little selves with power and might to create their own destinies and ways in this world. That is a wonderful thing to see, and also it scares me for I love them so.

5. “Do not worry about your life… do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” Matthew 6:25-34.  I think as woman we have this quality of letting ourselves run with ideas and notions. I can get myself into a tail spin about something that hasn’t even happened, and most likely won’t happen. For example, our middle son, Maverick, has to have surgery on his ear in a few months. I find myself worrying about every detail of that surgery, when it isn’t for a few months from now. How is that helping?  I pull myself out of the train of emotions and thought and I read these verses over and over again. I pull my mind off from the ledge and bring it back to Gods good promises.

*Disclaimer: I love many other bible verses as well. For this season in my life, I find these are the ones I am leaning into and proclaiming as truth over my life right now. If you ask me in 2 years what my favorite verses are, I would hope my list would be different. That is what is so wonderful about God’s word: It is living and active.

Please feel free to share with me some of your favorite verses! xoxo Lydia

Thank you for sharing positive things. Too much in the other direction being spread around. I enjoyed reading the bible verses, always happy to learn of others favorites. Mark 12:30, for me is just a reminder.
