People ask me all the time, “What’s the secret to your happy marriage?”… and I really don’t have an amazing answer. There is no real secret but rather just a way of living. I know Doug and my faith is the foundation of our relationship. I have found a man that sees the world through the same lens that I see things, and so at the end of the day, all the little things are just that- little.
I love Doug. He is the man I have prayed for and I don’t let myself forget that. I don’t take him for granted. I cherish him and treat him with respect. I tell him how much I adore him and I honor him. The beautiful thing about all that is I know he feels the same way about me! He adores me and cherishes me and honors me. It is mutual. Of course we have moments of frustrations and fights… but I am his and he is mine. That at the end of the day is what we try to focus on and remember.
There are so many great books out there for marriages. There are also amazing couple devotions to do together once a day that really root your relationship in the Lord. I love HomeWord Ministries and Doug and I have even gone on their couples retreat. They have amazing resources here.
Be encouraged friends! Love is the greatest gift and there is no secret formula for a good marriage! Love is just that: LOVE.
