If I can make it there, I can make it anywhere… New York! New York!
I went to New York City for a press trip for my book “Beyond Orange County.” I have been flown out to New York before when on I was on RHOC, but this trip was different. It was special. I had followed my convictions and walked away from “fame” and now I felt I was going to New York on my own terms, pursuing my own dreams. I was getting to go and talk about my faith and not housewife gossip. It was a full circle moment.
My mom came with me for moral support and SHOPPING. Of course while we were in the city my mom and I jam packed the days with not just press interviews- but also mother/daughter fun. I am so grateful for her. We walked through Central Park, visited the Bravo clubhouse with Andy Cohen, ate amazing New York food, and did all things touristy we could find!
My days were also jam packed with interviews to promote my book, “Beyond Orange County”. I was nervous to be so bold and open about my faith, and how that would be received. You can check out some of the videos of a few of the interviews I gave to The Christian Post, Fox News, and Wet Paint.
Leaving my family, especially my three little boys was very hard for me. The week leading up to the trip I was both excited and anxious. I sat on the tarmack waiting for my plane to take off and texted my friends, telling them how nervous and scared I was. Putting yourself out there is hard. My friends quickly texted me verses to lift me up, which I would read over and over on the way to my interviews once I was in New York:
“The Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all might hear it.” 2 Timothy 4:17
“Be confident in this: He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it.” Philippians 1:6
The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:14
“So she called the name of the Lord Who spoke to her… the Living One Who sees me.” Gen. 16:13-14
After every interview I could replay in my mind things I wished I said, or a way I could of been more bold. I would remind myself of these truths and rested in the fact that I am merely Gods willing servant and trust that His Sprit was speaking through me.
I was touched with some of my fans that would encourage me when they recognized me on the street. Even reporters that were Christian would share with me after our interview how I had encouraged them in some way.
Every minute I was in the city I was aware that I am living out my dream. I am so grateful for every moment and humbled that I am living this great adventure. I have worked hard and believed in myself and fought for my success. Nothing has been handed to me. Yet, God has guided me. He has opened doors and told me to run through them. He has done more then I could ask or imagine with my life thus far. Whatever hopes and dreams you have in your heart friend, run towards them! God has placed those passions in you, and you can live your dreams! No matter how many people tell you it’s crazy. After all, you only live once, better make it count.
