Life is all about perceptive. We have a choice on what we choose to focus on. Our thoughts are constantly rushing through us and we can choose to focus on things that are good and fruitful, or the negative.
I love the verse where Paul writes from jail, “I have chosen to be content” (Philippians 4:11) … this is a choice. Obviously jail doesn’t offer a lot of contentment, yet Paul says that it is a choice and something that he has had to learn. Contentment is something we have the power to choose to be- it is not a destination we will one day reach. We are all capable of contentment today, right now, we just must choose it.
We also are called to “take captive of your thoughts.” We aren’t suppose to let our thoughts run away from us. My middle son Maverick will sometimes get scared at night and I am trying to teach him to take hold of his thoughts and focus on the good, not the scary. A lot of times we will sing a worship song together to change his train of thought.
I know there is real pain and hardship that we face. This world is not heaven and we have to deal with some really intense dramas, but we all have the power to control our outlook. We can choose to have a grateful heart. We can chose to let things roll off of us. We can learn to choose contentment. It takes practice but every day, even situation is molding our minds. It’s takes work, but it is worth it. But that’s just my perceptive….
