Ten Years and Counting…

in Featured, OUTFITS

lydia doug 10 years vow renewalDoug and I are celebrating 10 years of marriage, and I am so proud of our relationship. It isn’t perfect but it is a priority to us. We make an effort to date, to always see the good in one another, and belive in each other. Many people think something must have gone wrong if we are doing a renewal but that is so sad. 10 years and still strong is worth celebrating!

I love Doug, we have brought three beautiful boys into this world. We live together, we work together and we traveled the world together. We have experienced dreams coming true, family members dying, moving, a reality show, adventure, success and failures. We have shared our lives and really become one. We wanted to pause and mark the moment. That is what this vow renewal meant to us.

This is our life, these are the moments. I belive in being intentional and celebrating the things that deserve a celebration! Life is good and beautiful and true love is real.

We renewed our vows at Surf & Sand Resort in Laguna Beach. This beach is so special to us as Doug proposed here and it’s where we had our first kiss. We had a short ceremony on the sand with 50 of our closest friends.  Most of these friends were not at our wedding a decade ago so it was so special having them support us for our “second” wedding. Our pastor, Phil, from Redemption Church is one of our best friends and delivered a perfect message reflecting on the past, but also our hopes for our future. Doug and I wrote each other a letter and read it out loud to each other in front of our community of people there.  This was the most touching part of all…hearing the love of my life read for all to hear how much he loves me. His eyes filled with tears as did mine. We are good about appreciating each other, but there was something extra touching about this. It seemed to carry so much weight as we looked into each others eyes and shared our love, our hopes, our dreams.

Afterwards we danced under the stars and felt so loved and supported with our best friends. It was a true celebration and everyone let loose and had a good time. I will always treasure this night and what it means to us.

Part of what made the reception so perfect was our amazing vendors. If you are planning an event in Orange County, let me give you the inside scoop of excellence.

We had the best photo booth ever! Giggles brought so many props not only did was the photo booth going off, but everyone was wearing the props on the dance floor and it added a fun element to our party.

Our DJ, Jason Jass, who not only was having as much fun as the guests, but played all our favorite songs and mixed them into each other effortlessly. He had lights going and the party hoping from the beginning to the end. Seriously, if you are looking for a photo booth or a DJ- let me hook you up, I give my recommendation wholehearted. These vendors took our party to another level.

My flowers were perhaps the most beautiful flowers I have ever seen, right out of my dreams. I also had flower halos for all my lady guests. This added a touch of ‘me’ I felt, and a beach wedding without flower crowns is a crime as far as I’m concerned. I feel flowers tell a big part of the story, and our flowers were exactly what I wanted. I felt like they were straight out of Bride Magazine. The Bloom of Time also matched my crown and bouquet to my guests crows and my cake flowers. It all was so beautiful I had to pinch myself!

Our Photographer, Rod Foster  is a good friend. We have traveled around the world together and he has shot me and my family, and has even appeared on Real Housewives of Orange County  a number of times. He always captures the moment and makes you feel comfortable.

I felt more beautiful than on my actual wedding day. More in love, more grounded, more known, more me. I guess the saying is true- we get finer with age.

I think some meandering isn't a bad thing, but nowadays that character development looks a little different. It seems like characters need to be developed in the motion of the plot, that readers want both at once without slowing the pace. At least that's what I've noticed in fantasy and science fiction, though fantasy does tend to meander more than other genres. Science fiction can, too.

I wouldn’t limit this to just questions people want to keep asking each other, but I’d hope some folks would be willing to say what they plan to do differently based on what they learned and heard and then keep the rest of us informed about what’s happening.

It’s very telling that you said the most touching part was when the love of your life read out loud, for all to hear, how much he loves you. How selfish!! A less self-absorbed person would have said the most moving part was being able to tell the love of their life, for all to hear, how much they love them (and seeing their reaction). Also, it’s curious that you said that most of the friends at this ceremony were not at your wedding 10 years ago. Have your former friends decamped?!
