Working from home can be tricky. It is hard to be motivated and stay on task when you are in the privacy of your own home and there are so many distractions and no one really holding you accountable. How can you stay driven and is it even worth it?
I have always worked for myself and been my own boss. Many days I work from my home office or my couch. It is hard to manage but with my lifestyle of juggling our three kids and other commitments, sometimes saving the 20 min commute to the office makes all the difference in the world! I have broken down my top 3 tips for all my home office buddies out there:
Get Dressed
As tempting as it is to stay in your pjs all day, it is important to get dressed! You instantly feel more productive and inclined to stay on task then if you stayed in your sweat pants. It is important to treat your work space as work and that includes and starts with your physical appearance.
Write out goals for the week (or day) beforehand
I have found that I am the most productive when I have a list of to-dos in front of me. It helps me stay on task and limits my distractions. This list also gives me a sense of accomplishment and I feel so productive when I complete my list. There is nothing like crossing off or checking off a to-do item.
Limit your distractions
If you know your weakness is Instagram, don’t have your phone by you. If you are distracted by your dog, put him in the other room during your work time. I think it is important to know yourself and know your weaknesses and set yourself up for success rather than failure. Whatever you find distracting, don’t let that be a distraction! Name it and claim it.
There are many things I love about working from home, but I have had to set real routines and ‘rules’ for myself. It is easy for me to all of a sudden want to organize the boys play room instead of answer all my emails because Im at home and see another project that needs to get done. I have found staying focused and having a plan really helps me succeed. You can get a million things done in a day if you stay focused and on track but you are your own boss and creator of your own success. Stay focused ad driven friends! Xoxo
