Why do we care how many likes we get on an Instagram post? Wanting attention or validation from mostly strangers is a bizarre mindset. I will post a photo and then check in moments later to see how many likes it is getting… why!? What is it in me that cares?
I want to encourage us to find out what we value and pour ourselves into that. This world makes us think it only matters when we are doing these big things- but it’s the little moments that have true meaning and depth. I have done “big things” by worldly standards and it left me wanting and empty. When you invest in people, relationships, love, kindness, these are the things that is what matters.
I believe in controlling our thoughts. Changing our mindset. We need to focus on things above and operate on another vibration then what the world is feeding us.
I love lists and concrete ways to help me achieve my goals. I have made a little list of tangible practices we can do on the daily to help change our perceptive and put our priorities right side up again….
- Put our phones down. Why am I taking my phone with my to the bathroom? Why do I need to have it an arms length from me at all times? I’m addicted to my phone! I have started leaving my phone in the car when I take my kids to the park. I engage with them and unplug from the chimes, alerts and notifications. Try this for a day!
- Be in the Word. I am not sure where you stand with your faith, but we all need to be in the Word of God daily. Not sure how to do this or start this? I wrote a blog books of what books I have red that have helped me grow in my faith and learn Gods word. Perhaps you are overwhelmed with a book, try just reading the book of Psalms from then bible. Super simple. Rea a Psalm a day. We are constantly being fed messages all day- we need to be intentional about feeding our minds wisdom from eternity to offset that input.
- Spend time daily being grateful. I like to start my day just thanking God. Thanking him for who he is, the beauty around me, my blessings, His creation. There is so much to be grateful for and it is important to set our hearts on gratitude and cultivate that trait within us.
- Be present in your situations. In our culture, busyness is praised. We are constantly distracted and doing 100 things a second. We need to be in the moment. We need to not just want to get a photo for Instagram, but to want to get the experience of this life for ourselves.
I am grateful for social media and this community. I believe we can encourage one another and use this for good. Thank you for investing in my thoughts and taking the time to hear where I’m at and what I’m working on in my own life. Iron sharpens iron. None of us have it all together- but together we have it all.
